Bring a blanket, pack a picnic dinner, and join us for an evening of family fun, celebration, and community connection at Carthay!
→ RSVP Here ←
Community Night is our chance to slow down, spend time with new and old friends, and enjoy the spaces and programs that make our school special. This year, we’re also celebrating the 20th anniversary of Carthay’s beloved Garden!
Some families bring a picnic blanket or chairs and lounge on the lawn, others blanket-hop visiting friends, and many spend the evening chasing their kid from activity to activity!
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Beyond lounging on picnic blankets and socializing with friends, there will be lots of things for students and families to do throughout the event, including:
An inflatable slide for the kids
Lawn games for all ages
Garden tours and activities
Arts and crafts tables
A costume and book swap
Music, food, and space to connect with other Carthay families
WHAT’S THE FOOD SITUATION?
Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase and families are welcome to pack their own picnic-style dinner, but if you’d prefer to have dinner waiting for you at the event, you can pre-order food through Wednesday, September 23.

HOW CAN I HELP?
Events like Community Night are a group effort, and we couldn’t pull them off without our wonderful volunteers!
We need help with:
Pre-event setup
T-shirt sales table
Craft tables
Snack & drink sales
Inflatable slide supervisors (or “Bounce House Bouncers” if you will)
Post-event cleanup
Not an approved volunteer? Not a problem! You do not need to be an LAUSD-approved volunteer to help with this event, so this is a perfect opportunity to get involved.
→ Sign Up to Volunteer ←
Can’t volunteer? You can still help by donating:
Sparkling water
Juice boxes
Picnic blankets for families to use during the event (you’ll get these back!)

Whether you can give some time, contribute an item, or simply join us for the evening, there’s a way for every family to participate.
I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS…
-
Yes, please! RSVP here so we know what kind of party to expect!
-
It’s up to you – some families choose to bring a picnic blanket or chairs and hang out on the lawn, others blanket-hop to visit friends, and many spend the evening chasing their kid from activity to activity!
You’re welcome to bring in your own food and non-alcoholic beverages, or buy snacks and drinks when you get there.
-
Snacks (like chips and granola bars) and drinks (like sparkling water and juice boxes) will be available for purchase at the event.
You can also pre-order a meal until Sept 23rd and it’ll be waiting for you when you arrive!
-
Yes! Volunteering is a great way to meet other volunteers, get to know the students and school staff, and feel like you’re part of the fabric of the community.
If you’ve been on the fence about becoming an LAUSD-approved volunteer, this is a great chance to see what it’s all about because no approval is needed to volunteer at this event!
Whether you prefer setting up or cleaning up, selling food or T-shirts, containing the chaos of kids on an inflatable slide, or assisting with a craft activity, we have a variety of ways you can help make this event a seamless success.
-
Many families have piles of books their kids no longer read and bags of old costumes that no longer fit, so we want to give them the opportunity to gift them to fellow families of Carthay.
We also do a uniform swap a few times a year at other events, so keep that in mind as your student outgrows their clothes in the coming months!
OKAY I’M IN!
Come reconnect with familiar faces, get to know some new families, and spend an easygoing evening at Carthay celebrating our community, the new school year, and the 20th anniversary of our beloved Garden!
