Winner Winner, Chicken Namers!
The results of the Chicken Naming Class Competition are in! Drum stick roll please… 🥁🍗
Congratulations to the families of classrooms 3 (Ng), 4 (Rodriguez), 18 (Davis), and 22 (Arnold) for for having the highest participation rates by September 27th in the Annual Giving Class Competition!
"Johnny, tell them what they've won!"
These lucky students have the honor of naming three of our newest chicken friends in the Carthay Garden. We had a tie for third place, so the TKers of Ms. Ng and Ms. Rodriguez’s classes will team up to name theirs (wishing you luck, golden hen! 😅)
But Wait - There’s More!
The Class Competition isn’t over yet!
Maybe your class doesn’t get to name a chicken, but there are still plenty of fun rewards to be had! If at least 50% of your class makes a contribution of any dollar amount, students will get to wear pajamas or have a free dress day. If the whole class participates, they’ll also win a movie and popcorn party or an ice cream party this fall!
→ Check the Class Competition Tracker to see how your class is doing
Sponsor a Student
If you’ve already donated but want to help your class reach 100% participation, you can anonymously sponsor a student for $25 each.
On Zeffy, check the box next to “Sponsoring student(s)” as well as the name of the teacher for your class and they’ll be credited for the contribution. You can sponsor as many students for as many classes as you’d like!
Individual Rewards
Students credited with raising at least $144 for the year (or $12 per month) will also qualify to throw water balloons at Mr. Garrison during Field Day on the last day of school (one of the most highly-anticipated moments of the year for many students!)

We’re not done yet!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Annual Giving Campaign so far, we’re beyond grateful for your support! 🫶
We’re still not quite to our goal of $90,000 from family donations and employer matching gifts, and our campaign ends this Friday, October 2nd.
If we aren’t able to raise the remaining amount, we’ll likely have to cut some of the programs, school support, and events we had planned for the 2026-27 school year. That could mean no Makerspace STEM activities, garden science and cooking classes, reading tutoring, PE and recess support, and more. 😔
Our students benefit greatly from the combination of outstanding education they receive at Carthay as well as the learning and enrichment activities funded by the PTA with money raised from the Annual Giving Campaign each year. Without your support, these programs won’t exist.
Here’s how we’ve allocated our anticipated funds for the 2026-27 school year:
Do what works for your family
Whether you can contribute $10 or $10,000, every dollar makes a difference. Here are suggested donations based on annual family income:
Three Ways to Donate
Donate online through Zeffy
You can make a one-time or recurring donation and will receive a tax receipt by email. Please include your student’s name and select their teacher so the class receives participation credit. If you have children in multiple classes, select every applicable teacher.
Donate through Zelle
Send your donation to carthaypta@gmail.com and include your student’s name and teacher in the payment description.
Donate by cash or check
Place your donation in a sealed envelope marked “PTA Annual Giving.” Include your student’s name and teacher and deliver it to the Carthay front office. Make checks payable to Carthay ESM PTA.
Double (or Triple!) Your Impact
Many employers match charitable donations. After donating, search for “Carthay Parent Teacher Association” in your employer’s matching-gift portal or ask your Human Resources department. This simple step could double or triple the support Carthay receives without increasing your personal contribution.
Grandparents, relatives, neighbors, alumni, and family friends can also donate or help fundraise. Ask them to include your student’s name and teacher so their gift counts toward class participation.
Together, we can give every Carthay student more opportunities to learn, create, move, connect, and thrive!

There are only a couple days left of hearing about this giving campaign, so help us get across the finish line to our goal so we don’t have to get rid of some of the chickens!
(Kidding! Or am I…) Donate here, just in case. 😉
